Kosei Ishimura
General Thoracic Surgery and Breast and Endocrinological Surgery
At first, I thought it would be quite a hurdle to learn an unknown field of medical AI from scratch, but thanks to this program and various supports from professors, I am gradually deepening my understanding. Although I still have many issues to overcome before I can actually start my research, I will do my best to acquire the ability to implement AI and to think in a way that can be applied to medical care.
Haruki Choshi
General Thoracic Surgery and Breast and Endocrinological Surgery
There are many reasons why people take this course. Some have a specific idea of what they want to do and need AI to do it, some are already familiar with programming, and some are vaguely interested in working with AI. In my case, I was vaguely interested in AI and took this course with little knowledge. The course is designed so that even such a person like me can understand and accumulate knowledge by learning the basics of programming and the concepts necessary for research using AI from the very beginning. In the course of actual programming, I was able to find an issue that can be applied to clinical practice, and I am currently conducting research on that issue.
Junki Toyosawa
Gastroenterology and Hepatology
I entered the course with no knowledge of AI, but there were some basic classes from outside and I
was able to understand what AI is.
Medical devices utilizing AI are beginning to be marketed in actual clinical practice, and I learned
a lot when considering the development of new medical devices, etc.
Ryusho Hamada
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
I am self-taught in programming. In this program, there are plenty of online lectures, and I can learn about AI from various perspectives. I am also inspired by the lectures and other events. I think it would be even better if there were more contents on how to implement programs and how to write papers.
Ryosuke Hirai
Gastroenterology and Hepatology
I joined the course with absolutely no knowledge or experience in medical AI, but I feel that I am gradually becoming more familiar with the content of the course through regular online lectures by professionals for beginners. The instructors are very enthusiastic and supportive. In the future, I would like to have more opportunities to learn not only basic programming but also how it is applied and utilized in clinical situations from experienced professionals.
Mashu Futagawa
Clinical Genomic Medicine
The course has an abundance of on-demand lecture videos on machine learning, which were easy to understand even for me, a beginner in AI and programming. In the online lectures, we actually implemented a classification model in the Python language, which helped me to get a clear image of model building for my own research. My dedicated supervisors have provided me with generous support not only in the selection and construction of AI algorithms, but also in the ethical application procedures for my individual research project. In addition, I was able to learn about the latest activities in medical AI at a joint seminar held by Tohoku University and Hokkaido University, as well as experience "design thinking" in a workshop format to obtain the essential issues and needs of the project.
2nd term
Takayoshi Kawabata
Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacy
I am a complete novice when it comes to medical AI, but by attending the online lectures provided in this course, I am gradually deepening my understanding. In particular, the hands-on lectures provide an environment in which I can ask questions when I encounter difficulties, which I feel is a very valuable opportunity for beginners. From now on, I would like to use what I have learned here as a basis for researching my assignments.
Kenji Takada
Hematology, Oncology and Respiratory Medicine
As someone with almost no knowledge of AI, I felt that creating medical AI was a very high hurdle
and difficult to handle as a research theme, but with the enthusiastic guidance and generous support
of the staff, this perception has gradually changed.
I am still lacking in both knowledge and experience, but I would like to continue my research and
get closer to my goal of creating AI.
Tami Nagatani
Clinical Genomic Medicine
My first encounter with medical AI was when my professors recommended the Clinical AI Course. At first, as a working graduate student, I was anxious about learning a new field that I had never experienced before, but many of the courses at Okayama University are available not only for on-site participation but also for web participation, and the program is offered at an easy-to-attend time, starting in the evening. The bio-design training, held jointly by Okayama University, Tohoku University, and Hokkaido University, was a very valuable experience for me, as I was able to learn the process of research planning and development using design thinking. The professors are enthusiastic and supportive in their research. I am sure that I will do my best to pursue my own research themes, such as diagnostic imaging and cancer genome medicine.
Masashi Miyamoto
Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacy
I chose the Medical AI course because I wanted to acquire new knowledge and skills, even though I thought it would be difficult to understand without programming knowledge. The course offers a wide range of online learning courses, from basic to advanced, as well as hands-on seminars to deepen my understanding by actually typing code. I would like to continue to work on integrating medical AI technology with the basic research I am currently doing.
Shoichiro Hirata
Gastroenterology and Hepatology
I chose this course because I can easily imagine the development of AI in endoscopic practice for gastroenterology. Without basic knowledge of programming, it is more difficult to understand the course because there are more practical skills than I imagined. I hope that the course will be easier for beginners to tackle in the future.
Yusuke Naoi
Pathology and Oncology
There is a wide range of research themes in medical AI, and I am sure you will find what you want to do. In this course, there is a solid educational database, so even if you start with zero knowledge, you will be able to do it little by little by first trying to touch it. Also, there are many answers on the Internet these days, so even if you get stumped, there is always an answer somewhere. I would like to gradually build up my knowledge and be able to do something practical and applied.

Executive student
Even though I am an engineering graduate with limited medical knowledge, I am able to learn medical
AI with confidence thanks to the support of many professors and the study sessions held among
graduate students.
The course utilizes many web tools, and even though I am a private company employee, I can learn
medical AI systematically from the rudiments such as programming to the latest AI information.
